Memories from the Present to the Future

First of all, I would like to thank Olympus Passion for giving me the chance to write for the paper. It is truly an honor.
My name is Silviu Avramescu, and I am 37 years old. I live in a serene city of Romania: Brasov, my native city. It is a small, vibrant city with a broad history. I am not a professional photographer, but photography is one of my hobbies, or maybe an actual obsession for the past three years. I work now as a barista at a coffee shop in the old town of Brasov, and part of my free time I spend taking pictures on the colorful streets. Sometimes I also like to travel, visit new cities and experience new perspectives. Let’s say that traveling is another one of my hobbies.

But let’s get back to photography and how it all started. My passion for photography was kindled by a portrait photographer from a movie: his art felt so inspiring that I was persuaded to look for a camera right away. I looked through all the brands, and one Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mk 2 (that I don’t have anymore) caught my attention: small, light, easy to change its (incredible) lenses, and that is how my journey in the world of photography started. Now I own 5, being 4 of them 35mm film cameras, and a digital one. Of these, the ones I use the most are the Olympus OM-D E-M5 Mk 2 and the Olympus OM-2N 35mm film camera.

The last one is something new for me, an interesting old school. But I must admit that my phone comes in handy as well. I always carry around a camera. Every day there are new opportunities for photography: in buses, on the streets, through parks, at work, in nature, in everyday moments, etc. I enjoy it; it is relaxing, it helps me to perceive the world differently, and sometimes it is even funny.

Some photographers that inspire me are Robert Frank, Lewis W Haine, Michael Freeman, Peter Lindberg, Andre Kertész. When I see their work, they ignite in me the passion to go out again and start shooting pictures right away, and through their masterpieces, I feel something that I cannot put into words: something magical.
My favorite lens is the M.Zuiko 45mm F1.8, which is pretty much good for any occasion: for the street or portraits. The 17mm F1.8 is something that I rarely use, but in the future, I will try to use it for street photography.

Why did I choose Olympus? Because it is a small camera, light, has a wide variety of lenses, classic, resistant, metallic body, resistant to drops, etc.
For editing, I use Lightroom, the mobile version on my iPad. For me, it is more than perfect.
